Ramadan quarantine series by Latifa Bint Saad

Following an instagram chat on how both of us were feeling during this very special Ramadan, Latifa Bint Saad (@thelatifabintsaad) accepted to share with us her digital diary during Ramadan Covid-19.

The majority of us entered into the Holy Month in total lockdown, thinking about new ways to (re)create familiar routines as family iftars or taraweeh prayers (Mosques being closed since early March in almost all Muslim countries) . Through this Ramadan quarantine series, Latifa Bint Saad tackles how we have all been emotionally challenged by the pandemic crisis. Our mobile phones appeared again as mirrors of our hopes and fears.

“The following series depicts my version of ramadan in the digital age. The following images consist of scans and screenshots from my iPhone that display my different acts of worship and leisure on a day to day basis. The holy month of Ramadan has faced a seismic shift as these different symbols act as a representative portrayal that reflects the current zeitgeist. These singular images represent the current isolating and lonely times experienced by many during this pandemic.” Latifa Bint Saad
